Apply Poision = preparation, Poison Arrow = bow attack.

Poison on a single opponent doesn't stack so the best you can do with Apply Poison is to spread it around to as many opponents as possible. Poison Arrows is a bow attack so it stacks with other preparations. Plus, Poison Arrow has a larger energy cost than the typical preparations you see - Read the Winds, Kindle Arrow. Still, both have there uses. If you want to poison a lot of people in order to spread health degeneration around, use Apply Poison. If you want to poison one or two people use Poison Arrow and use a different preparation to add more damage.

I've never seen poison arrow in higher-level PvP (GvG and HoH matches), but I have seen apply poison. Notably, I've seen more axe warriors using it than I've seen rangers using it.

Poison Arrow lasts considerably longer than Apply Poison, even moreso if you add in a poison string mod to the mix. It's spammable, and of course stacks with other preparations.

I disagree with above; I think poison arrow wins over apply poison for spreading the degen, at least for a ranger, because you can add rtw to poison arrow to get the speed bonus, and you also get a longer poison duration with poison arrow.

Still, there are better elites than Poison Arrow (for PvP at least), which will stack with apply poison. Crippling Shot + Apply Poison is a combo I think I've seen in GvG before.

You do with Apply Poison aswell.

Poison Arrow is bad, because Apply exists. When you can spread poison just by tabbing through opponents and auto-attacking, it makes life a whole lot easier, faster and cheaper on energy.

I meant that Poison Arrow gets a longer base duration than Apply Poison. And at 5 energy apiece, if you have to worry about your energy when using Poison Arrow, something tells me you're not a ranger primary ;D

In PvP, I think most people spread poison with Apply Poison and save that elite spot for other skills. I've always thought Poison Arrow is not very useful but in random PvP, Poison Arrow may be a lot more useful.

I think i saw ZPZG use a ranger with Poison Arrow, not sure if it was them.. but it was a top 50 team. Saw it today.

If your playing a degen ranger in PvP usually you have a partner. One with Posion Arrow and one with Melandru's arrows. You main target is Monk's. Degen them and then interupt em'. Also it works to stop most people in thier tracks and make em' run away because most people will want the degen off them quickly.Stack it with a few mesmer or necro hexes and people collapse quickly becuase they cant remove the degen/hexes fast enough. Ever seen a poisoned and bleeding Monk with backfire on him?

Apply posion is best in PvE. Unless for some wierd reason you want to add it to a spike ranger build just for giggles to make Monks work that much harder.

Poison arrow is better simply because you can choose who to use it on. Some enemies have plague touch or sending. If you have apply poison on, and shoot them, they send it riight back... With poison arrow, you can simply not use it, till you see fit. I hate tanking with somebody who throws conditions around on scarabs or what not, and I end up getting slammed with half a dozen things. Either know how to use your conditions, or dont use them. Hence the reason for PA, you dont have to use it when you dont want, unlike a prep, when its on, its on.

As you increase your Expertise, Poison Arrow gets a greater increase in energy efficiency than Apply Poison does. Also, you can also pair it well with Kindle Arrow (both in WS) to get some nice damage.

Overall, I prefer AP over PA, but PA isn't terrible by any means.

I'd have to agree that apply poison is a PvE skill while Poison Arrow seems designed specifically for PvP. Apply poison has the advantage of being able to be used with other attacks that deliver conditions like dazed and cripple. I use an apply poison pindown epidemic build that works great in PvE as long as your tank can keep the mobs clustered since Epidemic has a rather narrow radius of effect. Some of the new condition causing bow attacks in factions will make apply poison even more attractive.

For general all around use, i think Apply Poison serves it's purpose mainly because it doesn't take up your elite. The only place i use Poison Arrow anymore is my solo FoW build, otherwise if i need poison, it's apply all the way.

In PVP the only way AP is better is if ur not a Bow user

PA lasts considerably longer. So for energy it is the way to go.

Also you save time in mid fight. Unless you are a crip poison ranger thats a different story and we all know that got nerfed. Altought still very doable.

You can still be a spiker with PA. Harder with AP. Only time I use AP is when i am a warrior. Well to each his own.
